Goal

How long the sensor collects light. Fast speeds like 1/1000 s freeze motion. Slow speeds like 1 s blur it and need a steady camera.

How wide the lens opens. A small f-number such as f/2 lets in lots of light and blurs the background. A big one such as f/16 keeps everything sharp.

How much the camera amplifies the light. Higher ISO brightens the photo but adds grain, so keep it as low as the light allows.

Turn a dial by dragging across it, like a real dial. Tap the left or right side of a dial to move one click.
Every click is one stop: it doubles or halves the light. Take a stop away with one dial and give it back with another to keep the same brightness with a different look.
An orange A on a dial means the camera is setting it in the current mode. Turn the mode dial to take control.
AUTO: camera sets everything. P: you set ISO. A: you set aperture and ISO. S: you set shutter and ISO. M: you set all three.
The meter at the bottom of the viewfinder shows over- or under-exposure in stops. Aim for 0.
The histogram shows brightness from dark (left) to bright (right). A red bar at either edge means detail is lost.
